Three students from the ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï State Salem Campus were recognized by ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï’s English department during the annual student awards ceremony earlier this month.
Derek Shasteen received the prestigious Anna Ulen Engleman Creative Writing Award for his work of poetry. He is a junior English major, taught by Dr. Craig Paulenich, English professor at ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï State Salem.
Receiving the Bedford St. Martin’s College Writing Essay Awards were Michelle Santini, for placing first in the Tier I level of competition, and Jonathon McCann, placing first in the Tier II level. Santini is a freshman, majoring in nursing, while McCann is a freshman pre-med major. Both were taught by James Winter, English lecturer on the Salem Campus.
The ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï State Salem students’ works were judged against submissions from students representing all of ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï State’s campuses.
