She’s still a junior, but Treasure Reynolds already knows that her future involves a career in which she will be a helper.

A psychology major on the East Liverpool Campus, Reynolds is the perfect example of how being involved and seeking opportunities can benefit any student. She explained that while meeting with her academic advisor, she asked about possible internships that could help launch her career after graduation.
That inquiry led her to being offered a position as a care management entity (CME) intern with OhioRise through the Jefferson County Educational Service Center in Steubenville. OhioRise is a specialized Ohio Medicaid managed care program for children and youth to age 20 with complex behavioral and multisystems needs.
RISE stands for Resilience through Integrated Systems and Excellence. The program works to pair caregivers/family members with a care coordinator to help navigate a system designed to help with mental health needs, substance abuse challenges, developmental disabilities, juvenile court involvement, relationships and problems at school.
As a CME intern, Reynolds is responsible for reaching out to individuals who were referred to OhioRISE for services and completing the documentation involved with each contact. She contacts them through calls, texts and letters. This is a paid internship and could evolve into a permanent job after graduation.

The experience pairs well with Reynold’s major in psychology, and especially with her minor in human development and family studies.
“My studies at Թ State prepared me for this role by allowing me to understand the helping field and how to persevere,” she said. “…I pictured myself being an intern at a counseling center first. Even though this is not a counseling center, I enjoy my job, and it is in the helping field. That is what I wanted most: to have an internship in the helping field.”
Reynolds said she strongly encourages students of any major to seek internship opportunities and offers this advice: “…Remember that you are academically prepared and being an intern gives you more experience in your field and may even lead to a full-time job opportunity.
“Personally, I am so happy that I took the opportunity. It was scary at first because it was all new to me, but with time it got easier and more comfortable,” she shared. “Another thing that helped me learn this job is working with an amazing team. That’s another thing to remember. People are there to help! Stay patient; stay positive; and persevere because it will be worth it! “
Reynolds is a standout student on the Columbiana County campuses. During the recent Salem Campus’s student awards banquet, she was recognized for being named to the President’s List for the spring 2024 and fall 2024 semesters. Likewise, she received the same recognition from the East Liverpool Campus, but she also received the academic award in psychology.
