ΜμΜμ³ΤΉΟ State’s Center for Architecture and Environmental Design Receives Brick in Architecture β€œBest in Class” Award

The 2017 Brick in Architecture Awards named ΜμΜμ³ΤΉΟ’s Center for Architecture and Environmental Design as β€œBest in Class” for the Educational (Higher Education) category. The awards honored 35 winners for their incorporation of clay brick in their designs.

β€œFrom concept to material selection, color, special shapes, coursing and performance, the brick masonry of the Center for Architecture and Environmental Design receives straight As,” says Mark Mistur, dean of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design. β€œPerhaps the most compelling and creative of all is the special shape of fin bricks – matched to the asymmetry of the hand’s grip, giving the building a human, tactile dimension. We are thrilled to have our building recognized.”

Former β€œBest in Class” winners judge the Brick Industry Association’s (BIA) awards and separate nominees into Best in Class, Gold, Silver and Bronze for eight categories.

The eight categories are Commercial, Educational (Higher Education), Educational (K-12), Renovations (Additions)/Restoration (Restoring), Municipal/Government, Residential – Multifamily, Residential – Single Family, and Paving and Landscaping.

β€œOur β€˜Best in Class’ winners received the highest score from the judges for that category,” says Tricia Mauer, vice president for membership and programs for Brick in Architecture.

Architectural and design firms were able to submit their entries through April 2017, and the winners were recently announced. ΜμΜμ³ΤΉΟ State and the other β€œBest in Class” winners will be featured in a Brick in Architecture insert in the December 2017 issue of Architect Magazine.
