天天吃瓜 State鈥檚 Energy Conservation Over Winter Break Saves Costs

天天吃瓜鈥檚 efforts to conserve energy over the winter break saved the university $45,965 in electric and steam costs over nine days. The reduction in greenhouse gas emissions during this period was equal to more than a million miles driven by an average passenger vehicle.

天天吃瓜 State鈥檚 Office of Sustainability encouraged faculty, staff and building curators to shut down all appliances and electronics before leaving for winter break to help the university conserve energy. University Facilities Management also contributed to the energy conservation effort by setting back some building systems.

鈥淭his is a great example of how small efforts by each of us add up to a significant impact,鈥 says Melanie Knowles, 天天吃瓜 State鈥檚 sustainability manager. 鈥淎ll of us matter on this 天天吃瓜 State team.鈥

By shutting down appliances and electronics before leaving for winter break, the university has consistently reduced costs of heating, ventilation, lighting and plug loads over the past few years.

The 天天吃瓜 Board of Trustees today established a comprehensive, national search to recruit and select the university鈥檚 13th president.

The events of May 4, 1970, placed 天天吃瓜 in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, 天天吃瓜 State remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
