Quick Tip: Configure Your Course Grading Scheme
Over the last several weeks, we鈥檝e covered a lot of Gradebook setup tasks in various areas of your Canvas courses. Our last Gradebook setup tip is a reminder to make sure to check and update the grading scheme in each of your Canvas courses.
The grading scheme is the setting in your course that tells the gradebook which percentage ranges line up with which letter grades. If the grading scheme doesn鈥檛 match what鈥檚 in your syllabus, then your students might see incorrect letter grade information in Canvas. Additionally, if you plan to use Grade Push for midterm or final grades, your grading scheme must be configured in your courses before you can push grades to FlashLine.
How to Configure Your Course Grading Scheme
The grading scheme can be found in your course settings. Here鈥檚 how to set it up:
- Navigate into your Canvas course. In the course menu on the left, click Settings.
Scroll down the page partway until you reach the Grading Scheme section. If the Enable course grading scheme checkbox is not selected, you can select it to enable letter grades in your course and view more options.
Once you enable the grading scheme, you can a) view the selected grading scheme, b) select a grading scheme from the list of pre-populated options (93 > A, 94 > A, 10 point scale), or c) create your own custom grading scheme.
- Click the Update Course Details button at the bottom of the page to save your changes.
Note: If you prefer not to show any letter grades in your Canvas course, simply make sure that the Enable course grading scheme option is unchecked in your course settings.
