Scholarships for Undergraduate Students
The scholarship application for returning COMM students is open! New this year, apply via Scholarship Universe by March 15 to be considered for the COMM-specific scholarships you may be eligible for!

Our Scholarships
Arnold and Dorothy Danes Book Scholarship
- Award amount: Up to $500
- Other criteria:
- Student must be interested in global communication
- Stuent must be an undergraduate who has demonstrated academic excellence and an interest in being a citizen of the world through knowledge and action.
Michael Dubetz Endowed Scholarship
- Award amount: Up to $500
- Other criteria:
- Student must be a junior and exhibit strong leadership and personal achievement
Dr. Rozell Duncan Memorial Scholarship
- Award amount: Up to $2,000
- Other criteria: Student must be a junior or senior and demonstrated commitment through their involvement in leadership and participation in activities specific to the School of Communication Studies
The Feezel Family Scholarship for Global Studies
- Award amount: Up to $2,000
- Minimum GPA: 2.5
- Other criteria:
- Student must be a junior or senior
- Must be participating in a ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï sponsored study aboard program
- Please include your letter of acceptance
- Have a demonstrated financial need based on the FASFA financial aid form
- Upload a statement about interest in intercultural communication
Garmon-Murvay Scholarship
- Award amount: $500
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- Other criteria:
- Student must be a junior with at least one year left to complete
- Demonstrated academic performance, motivation, character, ability and potential
- Upload a letter that states
- How being a student at KSU has influenced him/her in his/her view of the world beyond ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï, Ohio.
- The importance of communication studies as a discipline, especially when considering gender communication and cultural communication in a diverse and changing world.
- Indicate if the student is a first generation student to attend college.
Nancy E. Mitchell Endowed Scholarship in Communication Studies
- Award amount: Up to $2,000
- Minimum GPA: 3.0 cumulative
- 3.25 GPA in Communication Studies courses
- Minimum of 21 credit hours completed in Communication Studies courses
- Other criteria:
- Student must be a junior with at least one remaining year of full-time enrollment on the ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï Campus
- Established a sustained record of academic excellence
- Maintained a consistent record of active involvement in service to their campus and/or community
- Provided effective leadership for organizations or groups engaged in service activities
Linda L. Moore Endowed Scholarship in Communication Studies
- Award amount: Up to $2,000
- Minimum GPA: 3.0 cumulative; 3.25 GPA in communication studies
- Other criteria:
- Student must be a junior with at least one year left to complete
- Upload a letter that states
- Documents a record of personal participation in responding to societal needs through community involvement and/or political advocacy
- Demonstrates an understanding of the ways in which communication knowledge and skills can best be used to support these efforts
Rebecca & Alan Rubin Endowed Scholarship
- Award amount: Up to $2,000
- Other criteria:
- Show prior academic performance, strong motivation, character, ability and potential
Scholarships for Graduate and/Or Undergraduate Students
Memorial Fund in Communication Scholarship
- Award amount: Up to $2,000
- Other criteria:
- Supports students who exhibit strong scholarly effort and or service during their time at ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï
- Graduate Student or Undergraduate student with less than 90 hours completed
- Preference will be given to students who are enrolled in a CCI-sponsored or supported study aboard program
- Please submit your letter of acceptance
School of Communication Studies Scholarship
- Award amount: Up to $2,000
- Other criteria:
- Supports achievement and recognition
- Preference will be given to graduate or undergraduate students who are enrolled in a CCI-sponsored or supported study aboard program

Dr. D. Ray and Susanne E. Heisey Endowed International Scholarship Fund
- Award amount: Up to $2,000
- Minimum GPA: 3.2
- Other criteria:
- International student must have come directly from his/her native country to be a student in the School of Communication Studies at ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï
Scholarships for Graduate Students
Dr. Dominic A. Infante Communication Scholarship
- Award amount: $2,000
- Other criteria:
- Student must be entering the second year of the Master of Arts program
- Be on schedule for completing their master’s degree
- Preference will be granted to a student who is judged by the graduate faculty to be a good prospect for matriculating into the Ph.D. program.
Additional Information
Before submitting the application and uploading supporting documentation, students should review the individual requirements and eligibility criteria. All scholarships must include:
- Completed application form;
- Upload a 1-2 page, double spaced document telling us about yourself;
- GPA as of the previous semester; and
- Two (2) names of Communication Studies faculty members who can serve as references, if necessary.
All scholarship recipients must complete a Thank-You Letter before the funds will be released to their bursar's account.

•&²Ô²ú²õ±è;&²Ô²ú²õ±è;&²Ô²ú²õ±è; AAF-Cleveland. AAF-Cleveland awards to junior and senior students studying communications, marketing, advertising, graphic design, digital media, public relations, journalism and more.
• AAF-Akron. AAF-Akron awards to junior and senior students studying communications, marketing, advertising, graphic design, digital media, public relations, journalism and more.
• Ohio Newspaper Foundation Scholarships. for journalism, advertising, marketing and communication students.
• Cleveland Association of Broadcasters . Awarded to sophomores and juniors enrolled in a major related to broadcasting, journalism, media, communication, advertising, etc., from Carroll, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Stark or Summit counties.
•&²Ô²ú²õ±è;&²Ô²ú²õ±è;&²Ô²ú²õ±è; College of Communication and Information (CCI) Study Away Scholarships. For CCI students taking a study abroad course.
• David A. Meeker Akron Area PRSA Scholarship. The Akron Area Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America awards one outstanding student the . The winner receives $1,000 and a one-year associate membership to PRSA following graduation. Also, two other winners are awarded one-year associate memberships to PRSA upon graduation. Applicants must be full-time students majoring in Public Relations or Communication and currently attending the University of Akron, ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï, Malone College, Mount Union, Walsh University or Youngstown State University.
