Community Action Fellows

CAF

Community Action Fellows are undergraduate or graduate student leaders committed to strengthening our community and developing leadership skills.

Community Action Fellows have the opportunity to:

  • Design and implement original community change projects connected to Community Engaged Learning's Areas of Impact (Food Security, Education & Literacy, Voting & Political Engagement, and Environmental Sustainability)
  • Serve as a liaison to multiple local non-profit organizations and government agencies
  • Co-lead a council of on-campus and off-campus partners in your Area of Impact
  • Attend two meetings per month with other Fellows focusing on leadership development, community engagement, and professional networking throughout the year
  • Serve as an Alternative Spring Break trip leader (all expenses paid)
  • Help us spread the word about opportunities with Community Engaged Learning through tabling, info sessions, and presentations

This time commitment is an average of four hours/week. Fellows receive a $375 stipend every quarter of the academic year (October, December, March, and May) with the completion of all responsibilities.

Critical Dates for Selected Community Action Fellows:

  • Complete required training in August 2025; Fellows will connect with each other, learn about CEL's Areas of Impact as well as community organizing techniques, and plan for the year)
  • Friday afternoons (from 1:00-2:30 p.m.) throughout the academic year (required meetings that will be up to 90 minutes in length); candidates will not be eligible for the position if there are any academic conflicts with this meeting time. We expect all Fellows will make attending each bi-weekly Community Action Fellow meeting their top priority during those days/times.

Selection of Community Action Fellows:

  • Candidates complete an interview process with CEL staff following the application deadline; invitations to serve as 2025-2026 Fellows will be distributed to successful candidates by the end of April 2025.
