RN Refresher Course

UPDATE YOUR NURSING KNOWLEDGE!

Are you a registered nurse who has a gap in practice and would like to return to the workforce? Or perhaps you would like to update your skills and refresh your knowledge?

A Registered Nurse Refresher course is being offered at 天天吃瓜 at Stark.

This seven-week course reviews all body systems, pharmacology updates, and has hands-on practice in our state-of-the-art simulation laboratory. Resume writing and interview coaching will be available to all students.

Hybrid delivery - both online and face-to-face instruction

  • 6 online synchronous lectures 
  • 2 required face-to-face meetings at the Stark Campus

FAQs

Q: Can LPNs take this course?
No, currently this course is only approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing for RNs.

Q: What is the expected workload?
There are 6 synchronous online classes once a week. These classes are 3 hours long, and attendance is expected. There are also about 3 hours of independent learning each week which include assignments, quizzes, and exams. At the end of the session, there are 2 required in-person days (free parking) for hands-on practice and simulation.

Q: Do I need to purchase any textbooks?
No, all materials are provided in the course. 

Q: Does this class count toward CEUs for license renewal?
Yes, you will receive 45 CEUs at the end of the course. You will also receive the required law Category A (2 CEUs) for the state of Ohio.


HOW TO APPLY

Students defer full admission and are admitted one of the following ways:

  • Undergraduate Guest - if you never attended 天天吃瓜 State before or took undergraduate courses elsewhere after attending 天天吃瓜 State
  • Undergraduate Reenrollment - if you attended 天天吃瓜 State before or received a degree from 天天吃瓜 State, and have not taken any undergraduate courses after attending 天天吃瓜 State
  • Admission questions can be directed to 330-244-3251 or starkadmissions@kent.edu.

After you are admitted to 天天吃瓜 State, you must send the following to Christine Howell, MSN, RN, at chowel25@kent.edu:

  1. 天天吃瓜 State ID number (81...) OR 天天吃瓜 State email address; and
  2. RN license (active or inactive) OR proof of graduation from an RN program

Once your RN status (active, inactive or graduate) is confirmed, you will be able to register for the course.


TUITION INFORMATION

Tuition will be charged for a Regional Campus 3-credit hour undergraduate course. If applicable, out-of-state tuition rates do apply for this course.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Discuss 21st century changes and trends in healthcare.
  • Review and examine nursing care and pharmacology for the major causes of morbidity and mortality for adults in the United States.
  • Identify legal and ethical concerns for nurses including RN scope of practice and standards of nursing care for safe practice.
  • Discuss principles for best geriatric practice and holistic end of life care.
  • Demonstrate application of nursing process to provide care to adults and families in acute, chronic, and rehabilitation care settings.
  • Utilize a variety of resources, including nursing research, to provide quality, cost-effective nursing care.
  • Apply and integrate nursing knowledge, safety in skills, and professional behaviors using clinical reasoning.
  • Prepare for employment as a professional nurse, including developing interviewing skills and creating a professional portfolio, a letter of interest and resume.  

LABORATORY LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Demonstrate comprehensive assessment and health history taking skills.
  • Utilize principles of organization, prioritization, time management, and nursing delegation in the care of simulated patients.
  • Demonstrate competency in clinical nursing skills- ADL鈥檚, Safe medication administration, IV skills, Oxygenation, I+O, NG, Foley Catheter and EHR documentation/informatics.
