Painting Her Own Future: From Intern to Innovator

See how Sophia Matar’s passion for education, AI and robotics landed her a full-time tech job at Sherwin-Williams

Inspired by robotics, Sophia Matar always knew she wanted to pursue a career in IT and major in computer science. At ΜμΜμ³ΤΉΟ, she picked up valuable skills that helped her in her first job at Sherwin-Williams in Cleveland.

β€œThe classes I took, especially those involving teamwork, prepared me for corporate life,” Matar said. β€œEach person brings unique knowledge and skills, and by working together, we can create a great product.”

After completing an internship and co-op at Sherwin-Williams, Matar graduated in May 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in computer science, and joined the company as an AIT Analyst/Developer 1. She’s quickly gained a comprehensive understanding of the company and explored her career interests.

Currently, Matar is part of the shared data platforms team, working with software tools to organize and manipulate customer data, ensuring it’s accurate, accessible and user-friendly for internal business analytics.

Matar is also pursuing a master’s degree in computer science at ΜμΜμ³ΤΉΟ State, conducting research in the Advanced Telerobotics Laboratory and developing an AI tool for visually impaired people learning programming. In her free time, she mentors high school girls in robotics in Cleveland.
