The Makerspace Lab includes workstations, 3d printers, a laser cutter, 3d scanner, soldering stations, and other equipment to use in the ideation and implementation phases of the design process. This lab is securely designed for work associated with Stratasys industrial 3-D printers.

The College of Aeronautics and Engineering (CAE) has a Stratasys Objet260 Connex3 3D printer and a Stratasys F270 3D printer. Open to the public by reservation. Come in to watch a demonstration or to print!

Both the Stratasys Objet260 Connex3 3D printer and the Stratasys F270 3D printer were purchased with a grant from the State of Ohio. The first Regionally Aligned Priorities in Delivering Skills (RAPIDS) initiative awarded the College of Aeronautics and Engineering $140,000 to purchase the printer. RAPIDS 3 funds were used to purchase the F270 machine. This investment will allow students to acquire the knowledge and skills critical for advanced manufacturing. To fulfill the conditions of the grant, we will make the equipment available to students outside of the College and at other institutions. Materials Used by the Objet260 Connex3 3D printer

  • Flexible color: When you combine three materials from the Rubber and Rigid Opaque families, you can produce prototypes with a range of Shore A values in a wide range of colors from deep dark to fluorescent, and even translucent.
  • Digital ABS in the Mix: For outstanding durability and a range of Shore A values, you can combine durable, two-component Digital ABS material with Rubber material.
  • Simulated Polypropylene: Tough single-material options withstand the stress of living hinges, flexible closures and snap-fit parts. Combine with Rubber-like materials for a range of grayscale shades and Shore A hardness values.
  • High Temperature: This heat-resistant material is ideal for thermal testing of static parts. Combine with Rubber material to achieve a range of material properties.
  • Bio-compatible: Medical rapid prototyping materials offer excellent detail visualization and dimensional stability for dental delivery trays, surgical orthopedic guides and hearing aids.
  • Rubber: With a range of bright and subtle colors, opacities and elastomer characteristics, this adaptable material is ideal for modeling a wide variety of products from soft grip handles to footwear.

  • PLA (PLA does not utilize soluble support material. The supports are made of breakaway PLA.) Range of colors available.

Advanced FDM Technology Stratasys’ FDM® (fused deposition modeling) technology works with engineering-grade thermoplastics to build strong, long-lasting and dimensionally stable parts with the best accuracy and repeatability of any FDM technology. These parts are
tough enough to be used as advanced conceptual models, functional prototypes, manufacturing tools and production parts. Build dimension for the F270 is 305 x 254 x 305 mm (12 x 10 x 12 in.).
