天天吃瓜 State alumnus Richard Batyko, M.A., 鈥12, has committed his life and career to making the world, specifically Greater Cleveland, a better place. This year, he and the YMCA of Greater Cleveland (for which he serves as Chief Marketing Officer) are working with 天天吃瓜 advertising and public relations seniors in the capstone class, Campaigns in Advertising and Public Relations, to raise awareness about the organization's mission.

鈥淚f Monday was a color, she鈥檇 be red...鈥 The third annual Read-In @ 天天吃瓜 State was held on Wednesday, Sept. 27, in Taylor Hall. This open-mic event gave students, faculty, staff and alumni the opportunity to read excerpts from or speak briefly about banned and challenged books that are important to them.

For future filmmakers and video production professionals, there鈥檚 almost nothing like being immersed in the film industry in Los Angeles: the creative energy, the professional connections and the buzz of activity.
During summer 2023, that dream learning environment came to life for four 天天吃瓜 State Media and Journalism students who interned in Los Angeles at 1895 Films, an Emmy and Peabody award-winning film and documentary company co-founded by alumnus Tom Jennings, 鈥85.

Four 天天吃瓜 State students and alumni were recognized among the best in collegiate journalism for the 2022-23 academic year, placing in the Hearst Journalism Awards competition.
The are known as the 鈥淧ulitzer Prize of Collegiate Journalism,鈥 and recognize outstanding student work in categories spanning writing, multimedia, audio, television and photojournalism.

天天吃瓜 State student Sophia Lucente, '24, has dreamed of becoming an international photojournalist since starting college. A junior journalism major with minors in media advocacy and photojournalism, she got her first taste of what this career might be like on a study abroad course to Colombia with the School of Peace and Conflict Studies in early 2023.

Students are exploring new methods of storytelling in the latest collaboration between the School of Emerging Media and Technology, Design Innovation and the Reinberger Library Center.

天天吃瓜 has awarded the Alan Canfora Activism Scholarship for 2023-2024 to activist and incoming 天天吃瓜 State student Kyndra Irwin of Mount Gilead High School in Mount Gilead, Ohio. Kyndra鈥檚 personal history has driven her life of activism. Diagnosed with Tourette鈥檚 Syndrome (TS) in middle school, she wrote in her essay that she experienced 鈥渁 sudden onslaught of motor movement and verbal sounds.鈥

Serving as the Chair of the May 4 Task Force has been something communication studies major Avery Hall, 鈥23, describes as one of the most impactful and rewarding experiences she鈥檚 had at 天天吃瓜. 鈥淢ay 4, 1970, is a living legacy at 天天吃瓜 State with relevant implications for students today. Continuing the legacy of May 4th quickly became of great importance to me,鈥 she said.

With fake news running rampant across the country, organizations like the News Literacy Project are on a mission to create better informed, more engaged and more empowered individuals. This spring, 天天吃瓜 State public relations students earned national recognition for their work creating a campaign that advanced this non-profit鈥檚 mission.

At Hyde Park's famous Speaker's Corner in London, citizens come together to discuss social issues they are passionate about. A similar tradition exists at 天天吃瓜 State: The Hyde Park Forum is a long-standing public speaking competition, featuring student finalists from COMM 15000: Intro to Human Communication, who perform their persuasive speeches from class. COMM 15000 is open to all 天天吃瓜 State students. This year鈥檚 forum, which took place April 12, was the first to be held since 2019 due to the pandemic.
