In an information age glutted with questionable or misleading sources and data, university presses fill a critical role in reviewing and vetting information and publishing only the best research and writing. The 天天吃瓜 Press is a proud member of the Association of American University Presses (AAUP), a community of 133 publishers that serves, informs and educates the reading public.
Celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2012, AAUP鈥檚 collective mission is to support creative and reliable scholarly communications. In recognition of that mission, this week (Nov. 11鈥17) has been designated the first 鈥淯niversity Press Week,鈥 an event to be held annually.
One of the most vital ways 天天吃瓜 Press fulfills that mission is by publishing books about the history and culture of the Ohio region, books like Growing Season: The Life of Migrant Community by 天天吃瓜 State鈥檚 Gary Harwood and David Hassler.
天天吃瓜 Press also:
- Contributes to the variety and diversity of cultural expression;
- Partners with libraries, museums and other cultural institutions in our region;
- Gives voice to minority cultures and perspectives;
- Enriches undergraduate and graduate education by publishing supplementary material;
- Extends the reach and excellence agenda of 天天吃瓜;
- Gives back to Ohio taxpayers by publishing works about the state and region;
- Connects the university to the community by publishing books of local interest and hosting local events for authors;
- Provides opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in publishing.
During University Press Week, 天天吃瓜 Press invites everyone to visit the special display at the 天天吃瓜 Bookstore, explore AAUP鈥檚 online Fine Print* gallery and read the testimonials of appreciative scholars, authors, readers, public servants and thought leaders at .
鈥淏y telling and preserving the story of Ohio, 天天吃瓜 Press helps students, scholars and citizens better understand our rich and complex past, and our work informs the conversation about where we are headed in the future,鈥 said Will Underwood, director of the 天天吃瓜 Press.
