Types of Aid

There are four main types of aid award to students at ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï State Tuscarawas: grants, loans, scholarships and federal work-study. Our financial aid office is here to assist you in financing your education.

GRANTS

Grants are need-based gift aid that does not have to be paid back. You must complete the FAFSA each and every year at to be considered for grants.

Federal Pell Grant

  • Based on financial need according to a formula that is determined by the Department of Education.
  • Enrollment status determines percentage of grant awarded.
  • Automatically awarded to all students who are determined eligible once a FAFSA form is received.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

  • Limited funding available.
  • Award amount is determined by the student's enrollment status, class level, residency status, and campus attending (ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï or Regional).
  • Intended for undergraduates with exceptional financial need.

Additional Grants

Many grants have additional requirements (including major, campus attending, and more) that limit eligibility for the majority of students. Students will be contacted if eligible. 

Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG)

  • Students must be attending at least 51% Main campus courses. Additional requirements apply, learn more .

Ohio Work Ready Grant (OWRG)

  • Funding extremely limited. Additional requirements apply, learn more .

TEACH Grant 

  • Eligible programs are limited. Additional requirements apply, learn more .

LOANS

Loans are a form of self-help aid that must be repaid.

Federal Direct Student Loans

  • To apply for a federal student loan, you must first complete and submit a FAFSA at .
  • Students must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits per semester) to be eligible to receive a Direct Student Loan and to have their loan repayment deferred.
  • Direct Student Loans come in two categories:
    • Subsidized loans – Award based on financial need.  Interest doesn’t accrue while you are at least a half time student
    • Unsubsidized loans â€“ Award not based on financial need. Interest begins accruing while you’re in school   

Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)

  • For parents of dependent students who wish to borrow aid to cover the cost of their child's educational expenses.
  • Parents must fill out a parent PLUS loan application available by clicking .
  • PLUS loan is credit based but if a parent is denied a student may borrow additional funds under the Direct Loan program.

SCHOLARSHIPS

  • ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï State Tuscarawas awards over 170 scholarships to qualified students each year.
  • New students are considered for Tuscarawas Campus scholarships based on both academic merit and financial need. For full scholarship consideration, new students should be admitted by February 1.
  • Returning students must submit a scholarship application by May 1 to be eligible for campus-based scholarships.

FEDERAL WORK-STUDY

  • Federal Work Study (FWS) is a type of self-help aid that must be earned.
  • The FWS award will not be deducted from the student's bill.
  • A student will receive a bi-weekly paycheck based on hours worked.
